Great But worth the price? Dont know. February 18, 2010 ShreVen (boston,ma) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The purchase was smooth. I got the delivery within 5 days.. every piece intact, billed properly, Thanks Amazon. I was split between tiger brand JKCR10U and this, but decided on zo, because it was reviewed more. A very stylish look is a plus.
I am a south Indian, so I have a special place for rice in my heart, but we decided to eat HEALTHY(low carb diet):( and switched to brown rice couple of years ago, but this thing has made brown rice eating a :( to :)). But beware, if you don't plan your meals, or eat rice very rarely, don't get this because it takes too long to cook rice(to perfection) and is too pricey for an occasional eater. we are two people and occasionally cook for guests and 5 1/2 cups seem more than sufficient.
As to other grains and question: I tried red quinoa in quick cycle and it turned perfect. Basmati rice requires much less cooking time and in a regular cycle it turned mushy, so would recommend stove top for that. Also, Beware of making some recipes like biryani and khichri in this because they may get sticky.
A wonderful little piece of rice cooking machinery February 6, 2010 SurfTx (Santa Barbara, CA United States) After much debate and research, I finally decided to shell out the money for this rice cooker because I'm a rice-a-holic. I'm so happy I bought this rice cooker. This is such a wonderful cooker with so many features, and it makes perfect rice each time. Besides rice I've made porridge and cooked quinoa and barley, and they've turned out perfectly. My favorite setting by far is the "GABA" setting for brown rice. This setting makes the fluffiest, most full body brown rice your brown-rice-loving taste buds can imagine. The extended keep warm setting is a nice advantage, too, for when you want to make a lot of rice but can't eat it all in one day. The extended keep warm does not burn the rice, either, although it is a good idea to occasionally open the lid and stir the rice as the rice does tend to stick to the bottom and turn a bit brown (not burned). Essentially, if you are looking for a good rice cooker, you can't go wrong with this one. Oh, and it's sleek and modern-looking, too, if that's something you take into consideration.
best rice cooker ever February 6, 2010 Earline Sevin (louisiana) i am 70years old i have tried every rice cooker on the market this one is the bestthis is the second one i have purchase this one for my sister
Well worth the investment February 6, 2010 NB Simply put--I love rice. I work almost 12 hours a day and don't have time to soak rice, watch it on the stove, or even use a $30 rice cooker that constantly boils over.
I was somewhat skeptical of a $250 rice cooker, because a high priced item doesn't always mean it does a good job. But after reading all the positive reviews I ordered it.
I cannot say how perfect of a job this does cooking rice every time--even brown rice.
Trust me, you will love this. Yes, its an investment, but for busy people, or people who just want wonderful, perfect rice every time, this is great.
Over Priced February 5, 2010 Tom (OK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have used several other automatic rice cookers and other Zojirushi products. Comparing to other auto rice cookers, this is an average auto rice cooker with several high-Tech gimmicks. If you have good rice, other less expensive rice cookers (other two brands we had before) will also give you the same delicious taste. Relatively, this product is over priced!!
