Product Description Zojirushi Micom 3 Cup Rice Cooker
Amazon.com Review "Micom" means this sleek rice cooker is computer-controlled and ultra high-tech, from its spherical, nonstick pan to its "surround heating" system to its LCD clock and timer. (Program the cooker in the morning and have hot rice available immediately after work.) It not only cooks up to 3 cups of dry rice, but offers a choice of white/brown, mixed, sweet, and porridge settings. A quick-cooking option cuts time by 10 minutes. Rice is automatically kept at warm for hours, and a reheat feature brings it back to serving temperature. Instructions and a cooking chart explain everything. At 10-3/4 by 8-1/2 by 8 inches, it's remarkably compact and also lightweight. Transport it by its handle. Cord retracts for storage. --Fred Brack

Very nice cooker, recommended November 23, 2009 M. Moran (someplace) I have had this rice cooker for about a year now, and never had a bad batch of rice out of it. Ever.
We use it once or twice a week for standard white rice from your 50lb bag, sushi rice and even the occasional box of Uncle Ben's.
It is so easy to use, my kids do most of the cooking with it.
I think there are only two buttons on it that I have ever pressed: Cook and Keep Warm. There is no thinking, the measuring cup is pretty much 1/1 rice to water. The bowl is non-stick and goes in the dishwasher (top rack).
I have recommended this cooker to at least a dozen people who said they'd eat more rice if they knew how to cook it easily.
If you're looking for a small, easy to use rice cooker: I say go for it.
GREAT! November 1, 2009 SekarSequoia (N. California, USA) I have been a fan of Zojirushi rice cookers since we lived in Japan, almost 20 years ago. However, I am working out of town and needed something small to make breakfast just for myself instead of our family of 5. 10 years ago I was in a similar situation and bought the very bottom of the small capacity Zojirushi line, which I do not recommend unless you can't afford anything else from Zojirushi because it does not have a steam trap (it spits a lot while cooking) and it does not have a timer although it otherwise works well. I chose this product this time because it had the smallest possible capacity AND it had a timer, and because ... yes, it is cute. Aesthetically, I don't like brushed steel or beige plastic. I don't need lots of fancy settings; I just want consistently excellent white rice, which this appliance delivers effortlessly (it will even remember your timer setting, which is clock based, not duration based). The user guide was harder to use than expected but it still didn't take long to figure out how to use the timer. It has a small, compact footprint so I was able to squeeze it onto the counter between the sink and my housemate's microwave. The materials are surprisingly sturdy and well designed for being almost the bottom of the product line. The one thing I don't like about it is the lack of a holder for the rice paddle. This does not strike me as an expensive piece of the cooker and it is so handy (and included in other Zojirushi models) that it seems out of character not to have it. If I could have my 'druthers, I would get one that was even smaller (even one scoop of rice makes more than I need just for me but I wouldn't want to try any less in that diameter) but they don't make one smaller.
upgrade your bachelor cooking to the next level! August 28, 2009 MadMadisonMan (Seattle) This will upgrade your bachelor cooking to the next level! It's simple to use, the rice comes out great every time no matter what kind of funky brown or white rice you throw at it. Had it for years now and it's still my baby!! One of the best appliances I have in my kitchen!
Rice never tasted so good! March 17, 2009 David W. Dumbauld (Atlanta, GA USA) We got the cooker as a Christmas present to ourselves. My wife is an avid cook and insists on making things "the right way." She was definitely against me buying this device because she was intent on making rice in a more traditional way - on the stove top. After taste-testing rice made in this cooker by an Indian friend of mine (who happens to be an engineer) I was convinced the rice cooker would make better rice than my wife ever could - sorry honey.
Boy was I right. Not only does the rice come out perfect - PERFECT - every time, but it is also incredibly easy to use. Every piece of rice is cooked deliciously AND there is never any starch scum left at the bottom (making it easy to clean). It is also very compact and ergonomically designed. Our kitchen lacks cabinet space, but we easily found a nook to slide it into. Also, don't throw away the paddle or the measuring cup that comes with it - they are essential to fully enjoying the fruits of the machine.
I live in the American South and I love me some southern food. This weekend I decided to see if this Japanese rice cooker could dish up some good ole' country grits. In a word, they were freakin' awesome! I couldn't believe how tender and creamy the grits came out.
This machine is expensive, yes, but it's totally worth the cash. Just ask my wife.
